Blood Alcohol
Estimate blood alcohol content.
Explanation
Estimate your theoretical Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) based on gender, weight, and consumption. Warning: this is only a mathematical estimate (Widmark Formula), only a breathalyzer is reliable. ### Elimination The body eliminates alcohol very slowly, about **0.015% BAC per hour**. - Drinking coffee, water, or exercising does NOT speed up elimination. Only time works. ### Legal Limits - **0.08%** : Standard limit in US/UK/Canada. - **0.05% or 0.02%** : Stricter limits in many European countries and for young drivers. ### Standard Drinks A "standard drink" contains about 14g (US) or 10g (Europe) of pure alcohol. - 12oz Beer (5%) - 5oz Wine (12%) - 1.5oz Spirits (40%) At home, pours are often much larger.
Examples
- Male 180lbs, 3 beers: Peak ≈ 0.06%. Safe to drive legally in US, but maybe impaired.
- Female 130lbs, 2 glasses wine: Peak ≈ 0.07-0.08%. Borderline illegal.
FAQ
Can I drive?
If in doubt, don't drive. Mathematical estimates don't account for fatigue or individual metabolism.
Does eating help?
Eating slows absorption (peak comes later and is slightly lower), but the amount of alcohol in your system remains the same.
