Pot Volume
Calculate round pot volume.
Explanation
Choosing the right amount of potting soil for planters and pots is often a guess. This calculator gives you the exact volume in Liters or Gallons. ### Common Shapes - **Round (Cylinder)**: Classic flower pot. - **Rectangular**: Window box. - **Square**: Shrub planter. - **Tapered**: Most pots are wider at the top. We use the average diameter for accuracy. ### Drainage Remember that the bottom of the pot should have drainage material (gravel/clay pebbles), taking up 10-20% of the volume. The soil needed is slightly less than the total volume.
Examples
- Window box 20in x 8in x 8in = ~5.5 Gallons (20 Liters).
- Large round pot 16in diameter, 16in high ≈ 13 Gallons (50 Liters).

Should I pack it?
Lightly by hand, but don't compact it too much. Roots need air.
