Tile Adhesive
Calculate required tile adhesive.
Explanation
Tile adhesive (thinset mortar) is calculated in kg or lbs of powder. Consumption depends on tile size and the trowel notch size. ### Single or Double Buttering? - **Single**: Adhesive on floor only. Okay for small tiles. - **Back-buttering (Double)**: Adhesive on floor AND back of tile. Mandatory for large format tiles (> 12x12 in) to ensure 100% coverage. ### Average Consumption - **Standard**: 0.8 to 1 lb per sq ft (4-5 kg/m²). - **Large Format**: 1.2 to 1.5 lbs per sq ft (6-7 kg/m²). ### Trowel Size - 1/4" x 1/4": Small tiles. - 1/2" x 1/2": Large tiles (12"+).
Examples
- 200 sq ft room, large tiles. Need ~250 lbs of thinset (5 bags of 50lbs).
- Backsplash 30 sq ft. Need ~25 lbs.
