Tile Calculator
Calculate number of tiles needed.
Explanation
Calculating the number of tiles is essential to avoid trips back to the store or batch variations (color difference between two productions). ### Calculation Method 1. **Area to tile**: Length × Width of the room. 2. **Area of one tile**: Length × Width of the tile. 3. **Theoretical number**: Room Area / Tile Area. ### Wastage (Cuts and Breakage) This is the most important point. Always add a margin: - **Straight lay**: +5% to +10%. - **Diagonal lay**: +15% to +20% (more waste). - **Offset lay**: +10% to +15%. ### Tip Always keep one full box of tiles at the end of the job. If a tile breaks in 5 years, you will be happy to have the exact replacement!
Examples
- 20m² room. 60x60cm tiles (0.36m²). Theoretical count = 56 tiles. With 10% margin = 62 tiles.
- For a diagonal lay, plan for 67 tiles for the same area.
FAQ
Should I deduct grout lines?
No, for calculating the number of tiles, ignore grout lines to have an extra safety margin.
What about baseboards?
Baseboards are calculated in linear meters/feet (Perimeter of the room).
